Birt - BIRT is an open source software project that provides the BIRT technology platform to create data visualizations and reports that can be embedded into rich client and web applications, especially those based on Java and Java EE. BIRT is a top-level software project within the Eclipse Foundation, an independent not-for-profit consortium of software industry vendors and an open source community.
The project is sponsored by Actuate along with contributions from IBM, and Innovent Solutions. BIRT is supported by an active community of users here at Eclipse.org and at the BIRT Developer Center. It is licensed under the Eclipse Public License (EPL).
- BIRT is an Eclipse-based open source reporting system for web applications, especially those based on Java and Java EE. BIRT has two main components: a report designer based on Eclipse, and a runtime component that you can add to your app server. BIRT also offers a charting engine that lets you add charts to your own application.
- We encourage you to download BIRT, try it, and give us your feedback though the forums, newsgroup and Bugzilla.
- The spectrum of reporting applications is enormous, and our BIRT team can never provide every feature needed by every application. BIRT's scripting support is one way to extend BIRT. Another is to create BIRT extensions that plug into BIRT. The project provides many extension points that can be used to extend BIRT. Some of the more common ones are listed below.
